CATOLOGY Education DAY

Breeding better cats takes more than what any one of us knows alone. Catology’s Breeder Education Day brings breeders together to learn from experienced educators, share knowledge, and make more informed decisions for the future of our breeds.

Thursday, February 18, 2027

Circus Circus, Reno in the Casino Ballroom

All-Day Education Pass: $30 · Earn up to 5.5 TICA CEUs

Breeder Education is open to the public—you do not need to be entered in the Catology Cat Show & Convention or a member of TICA to attend. Everyone is welcome. Your all-day pass includes all four presentations; individual classes are not sold separately.

With Catology hotel rates of $55 Wednesday and Thursday nights, it is an affordable opportunity to come to Reno early, spend a full day learning, and stay for the show weekend.

Practical Veterinary Skills Breeders Can Safely Use

at Home

Nikki Crandall-Seibert, DVM

Practical, hands-on care for cats and kittens, including tube feeding, administering subcutaneous fluids, and other supportive-care techniques breeders can use at home.

Basic Concepts in Genetics: From DNA to Coloration, Coat, Skeletal, and Behavioral Characteristics of Domestic Cats

Adriana Kajon, PhD

Build a practical foundation in feline genetics by exploring how DNA influences the traits we see in domestic cats. This session will connect basic genetic concepts to coloration, coat characteristics, skeletal traits, and behavior, helping breeders better understand how inherited characteristics are passed from one generation to the next. Attendees will leave with a stronger framework for understanding inheritance and making more informed breeding decisions.

LineBreeding, Outcrossing, And Genetic Health

Jon Paterson

Explore how line breeding and outcrossing shape a breeding program and how pedigrees, genetic diversity, and health history can guide thoughtful decisions for long-term genetic health.

Colorful Cats

Lorraine Shelton

Learn how coat color and pattern are inherited, how genes interact to create the colors we see, and how breeders can use that knowledge to better predict possible outcomes in a litter.
